Message from our Chief Executive
First of all I would like to welcome those members of our team who have joined us in this last week. Our team is growing every week to ensure we have the support we need to care for our patients and increase our capacity as required. We continue to be extremely grateful to all colleagues for stepping forward to work here. I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming days. I am proud of the senior leadership team we have in place yet, which includes:
- Juliette Cosgrove, Chief Nurse
- Professor Tony Redmond, Medical Director
- Steph Gibson, Chief Operating Officer
- Janet Wilkinson, Director of Workforce
- David Anderson, Director Quality and IPC
Last week we received our first patients at Nightingale North West from Manchester NHS Foundation Trust and I’m delighted that towards the end of the week we were also able to discharge our first patient so they could go home to safely continue their recovery.
We are currently accepting patients on a phased basis to support hospitals across the North West. Taking this approach is really important as it allows us to ensure the safety of our patients and our staff.
On Friday 17th April we officially opened the hospital, with a small ceremony held in our auditorium. It was a valuable opportunity to bring together colleagues who have helped build this hospital from scratch over the last three weeks and to say thank you. What has been achieved in such a short period of time is remarkable – and it is important that we take the time to recognise that. The ceremony included messages form our leadership team, as well as video messages from the Duchess of Cornwall, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP and Sir Simon Stevens, Chief Executive of the NHS. We also had messages of thanks from well known locals from Craig Charles to Anna Friel. While attendance at the event was very limited due to social distancing guidelines, all video messages have been made available online so we can share them with every member of our team.
You can watch the full video messages here.
It is our priority to look after you during your time with us – to make sure you feel supported to do your job. We continue to work hard make sure we have the best possible support in place and our wellbeing offer is being updated all the time. More information on this below. You can also visit the staff hub to see the latest information and offers.
Thank you once again for stepping forward and working with us.
Professor Michael McCourt
Chief Executive

Staff from Nightingale North West will be the first to enjoy this new facility at the National Squash Centre. The new centre will be open 7:30am to 10:00pm seven days a week. This facility is open for all staff working at Nightingale North West – please remember to take your ID to gain access, more information here.
